iOS 27 brings a fresh round of updates to Apple’s Reminders app, adding smarter task creation, a redesigned editing panel, and improvements to grocery list sorting. While iOS 27 also expands features across Notes, Messages, and Wallet, the changes to Reminders center on speed and convenience for everyday task management.
Describe a reminder with Apple Intelligence
Reminders has supported natural language input for a while, but iOS 27 takes it further with Apple Intelligence. The familiar system still works: type details such as a due date, and the keyboard row suggests adding that information to your task.
The new addition lets you describe a reminder in your own words and have it automatically pick up all the relevant metadata you mention. According to an iOS 27 splash screen, users can “describe a reminder and Apple Intelligence will help create it for you.” It remains unclear whether both the old and new systems will coexist throughout the beta cycle, since they overlap in functionality. In practice, the AI-powered describe feature aims to make reminder creation faster and more seamless.
Redesigned metadata editor inside lists
The describe feature is part of Reminders’ full task metadata panel, but quick edits inside a list have also been upgraded. In iOS 26, creating or editing a task showed five options above the keyboard row: Date, Location, Tag, Flag, and Camera.
iOS 27 moves all metadata options into a new box that surrounds the active reminder, and it is far more capable than before. The updated interface lets you adjust the date, time, urgency, repeat settings, location, and camera. You can still tap the information icon to view the complete set of metadata options, but you should need to do that far less often.
Smarter grocery list sorting
Apple improved the grocery list auto-sorting feature in two ways. It now sorts grocery items more accurately, and sorting support expands to multiple languages. These gains come from the more powerful Foundation Models in iOS 27, which help this long-standing feature perform better than before.
The Reminders updates in iOS 27 focus on reducing friction, whether through AI-assisted task entry, a more robust in-list editor, or refined grocery organization. The redesigned metadata box surrounds the active reminder and covers date, time, urgent status, repeat, location, and camera options.
