The Apple Vision Pro remains one of the company’s most technically ambitious hardware products, but its most rewarding use case may be simpler than early adopters imagined. For many owners, the headset shines brightest as a personal theater rather than a productivity tool.
When the device launched, expectations were sky-high. Features like Mac Virtual Display and spatial FaceTime suggested the Vision Pro could replace virtually every screen in a user’s life. Reality proved more complicated. The headset’s weight made extended sessions uncomfortable, prompting a wave of owners to sell their units on the secondhand market.
A Steep Price Drop on the Used Market
That resale trend has created an opening for interested buyers. Used Vision Pro units now average around EUR 1,288, a significant discount compared to the new starting price of EUR 3,177. For anyone curious about spatial computing without committing to the full retail cost, the secondhand route has become far more approachable.
Where the Vision Pro consistently delivers is content consumption. While the App Store still has gaps, most major streaming services are available, including Disney+, HBO Max, and YouTube. Apple TV is also on board. Netflix remains the most notable holdout among the big platforms.
The Tim Cook Method for Watching
Outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly praised a particular way of enjoying the headset. He first shared his preference in January 2025 and referenced it again during an interview at the season 4 premiere of Ted Lasso. Asked whether he planned to watch the new season on the device, Cook said he would, adding that he watches lying down and that there is nothing quite like it.
The appeal of this approach comes down to comfort. Watching while reclining and looking upward removes the weight concern entirely, turning what can be a fatiguing experience into a relaxing one. Multitasking on the Vision Pro can still be a challenge, particularly because of its software keyboard, but passive viewing sidesteps those frustrations.
At full MSRP, buying a Vision Pro solely to watch television would be difficult to justify. With prices on used units falling sharply, however, purchasing one as a dedicated bedtime viewing device has become a more reasonable proposition, especially for 3D content. The experience is at its best when you have the time to settle in and watch.
