Apple smart glasses are on the horizon, with the company preparing to debut its first AI-powered eyewear as soon as next year. The device will bring Visual Intelligence and Siri into the physical world, marking Apple’s entry into a category already popularized by Meta’s Ray-Ban lineup.
Core Features and AI Capabilities
These are AI glasses, not augmented reality glasses. That distinction matters, because the device won’t include any displays. Instead, it will rely primarily on voice commands and built-in cameras to deliver its core experience.
The cameras will let Siri observe your surroundings, answer questions, provide context, and translate signage in real time. Another anticipated feature, first surfaced in a macOS 26.7 leak, would let you ask Siri to save an image of something and remind you about it later.
The glasses will also include speakers for music and audio, effectively functioning as open-ear headphones. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device may not support standard photo and video capture. That decision could be a response to the privacy concerns surrounding Meta’s camera-equipped Ray-Ban glasses.
Design Styles and Materials
Rather than partnering with an established eyewear brand, Apple is reportedly designing the glasses in house. Several frame styles are said to be in development, including a large rectangular frame reminiscent of Ray-Ban Wayfarers, a slimmer rectangular design similar to the glasses worn by CEO Tim Cook, larger oval or circular frames, and a smaller, more refined round option.
The frames are expected to use acetate, a more durable and higher-end alternative to plastic. Apple will reportedly offer a range of finishes, including black, ocean blue, and light brown.
Health Focus and Release Timing
In a future version of the product, Apple is said to be considering a health-oriented positioning. That could involve integrating heart-rate monitoring, similar to the AirPods Pro 3, along with additional software features comparable to the Apple Watch’s Workout Buddy. How else the glasses might support health remains unclear, and such capabilities are not expected in the first generation.
Recent reporting indicates Apple will unveil the glasses at WWDC 2027, giving developers time to prepare. The product would then ship later that year, most likely in September, alongside the 20th anniversary all-glass iPhone.
