Xbox Game Pass is finally coming to Google TV, though the app will likely be limited to TCL televisions when it arrives. After a lengthy silence, Microsoft has officially confirmed that it is building an Xbox app for select TCL Smart TVs, with a launch expected in the coming months.
The wait has already been substantial. TCL first revealed plans for an Xbox Game Pass app on its Google TV models at CES 2026 back in January. Microsoft never publicly acknowledged that announcement at the time, and no meaningful updates surfaced for months afterward. Now the company has confirmed the collaboration, marking the first time its cloud gaming service will officially reach Google TV.
Why the App Is Likely Exclusive to TCL
Notably, Microsoft’s announcement never names Google TV directly, referring only to a partnership with TCL. That wording suggests the Xbox app will be exclusive to TCL sets rather than available across the broader Google TV platform. TCL is the largest Google TV partner, and while it also builds Roku and Fire TV units, it relies primarily on Google TV. The company had previously teased the Xbox app alongside its new Google TV flagship.
According to Microsoft, the app will let players access Xbox Cloud Gaming through their Game Pass subscription and stream supported titles directly from their TV. Eligible subscribers will gain access to a library that spans major releases, established franchises, and independent games through cloud play.
Timing and New Cloud Gaming Limits
Despite the nine-month gap since the partnership first came to light, the app is still described as being months away from release. That leaves TCL owners waiting even longer for the feature to go live.
The confirmation arrives just one day after Microsoft revealed significant changes to its cloud gaming structure. Under the new policy, Xbox Cloud Gaming players will be capped at a limited number of hours each month, topping out at 15 hours, before they need to pay more to continue streaming.
The move fits into a broader push to expand Google TV’s reach. The platform has added over 10,000 free on-demand movies and shows that require no additional apps, and recent reports rank Google TV as the third-largest streaming operating system in the United States. New hardware is also arriving on the platform, including the XGIMI Aura 3 lineup of 4K short-throw laser projectors capable of 120Hz output.
For now, Microsoft has confirmed only that the Xbox app will reach select TCL Smart TVs, with the 15-hour monthly cloud gaming cap already set to take effect.
