OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Astra, a new artificial intelligence model the company describes as “the world’s most intelligent and aligned model.” The release follows a service outage earlier the same day, and access remains restricted at launch.

According to OpenAI, GPT-6 Astra represents a “generational leap” in capability. The model is designed to handle more advanced workflows with faster and more reliable computer use, along with improved output for documents, presentations, and similar professional tasks. The company says users can “delegate tasks with greater confidence in Astra’s judgment.”

Benchmark Results and Capabilities

OpenAI states that GPT-6 Astra brings together years of research across pre-training, reinforcement learning, and alignment. The company describes the model as state-of-the-art on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science, and professional work.

On benchmark testing, Astra reportedly saturates FrontierMath Tier 4 with a 98% score, having already contributed to solving long-standing open problems in mathematics. The model also saturates ARC-AGI-3 with a 99.9% score and ExploitBench with a 100% score. OpenAI says Astra sets a new frontier on computer and browser use, managing demanding professional work with what it calls unmatched speed, accuracy, and judgment.

Comparisons and Practical Use

OpenAI reports that GPT-6 Astra outperforms Claude Opus 5 and Fable 5 on computer use, and does so at a lower cost, while also demonstrating a better understanding of what it observes on screen. In one demonstration, the company showed Astra using Google Maps to find a pediatrician, navigate to the provider’s website, and complete a user’s contact details along with a message about establishing care.

Beyond computer use, OpenAI highlights improvements in coding, cybersecurity, and scientific discovery. The company notes that the model can assist with “the practical work behind scientific discovery.”

Availability at Launch

Access to GPT-6 is limited at first. The model is available starting today to a limited set of organizations. General availability is planned for all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users in the coming days.
