Meta AI is now the fourth third-party AI chatbot to support Apple CarPlay, expanding the roster of conversational apps available to drivers before Apple’s own Siri AI arrives with iOS 27. The latest version of the Meta AI iPhone app can appear in CarPlay, though access remains limited during what looks like an early testing phase.

Apple opened the door to conversational apps on CarPlay starting with iOS 26.4, a category that specifically includes AI chatbots. With that support in place, developers have steadily brought their assistants into the vehicle experience.

How Meta AI Fits Into the CarPlay Lineup

Meta AI joins three other third-party chatbot apps already compatible with CarPlay: ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok. The addition gives iPhone users in the car a growing set of AI options that go well beyond what most built-in vehicle infotainment systems offer.

There is a catch, however. Meta AI on CarPlay appears to be in limited testing for now. While the app shows up in the CarPlay interface, launching it can return a message reading “Meta AI experience is not supported yet for your account.” Attempts to unlock the feature through a paid Meta AI trial account did not change the message, suggesting the limitation is not tied to a premium subscription. Availability may vary from one user to the next.

Siri AI Coming With iOS 27

Apple’s own Siri AI will join the CarPlay chatbot category beginning with iOS 27. The iPhone software update is currently in beta, with an official public launch scheduled for September 2026. That timing means several third-party assistants will have reached CarPlay before Apple’s revamped Siri becomes available to everyone.

The expansion highlights a core strength of CarPlay: bringing existing iPhone apps directly into the vehicle rather than relying on a carmaker’s native software. That approach gives drivers a level of choice that factory infotainment systems typically cannot match.

Meta AI Beyond the Car

Meta AI’s reach is growing outside of CarPlay as well. Earlier in August 2026, the assistant arrived on the Mac, where the desktop version offers more capabilities than the current iPhone and iPad apps. CarPlay itself now works with more than 120 popular iPhone apps, and the recent wave of AI additions continues to broaden what drivers can do while connected.

For now, iPhone owners who want to try Meta AI in the car may see it listed in CarPlay, but full functionality is not yet guaranteed. The three established chatbot options, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok, remain available while Meta AI works through its limited rollout.
