Dark Matter season 2 has arrived on Apple TV, with the first episode of the new 10-episode run now available to subscribers. The sci-fi thriller returns more than two years after its debut season wrapped, picking up the story of a Chicago physicist thrown into an alternate version of his own life.
The series is based on Blake Crouch’s 2016 novel of the same name. Its opening season earned one Emmy nomination for Outstanding Title Design. Ahead of the new season’s launch, the show also took over San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H, where a panel revisited the first season and teased what comes next.
What to Expect in Season 2
The new season follows the Dessen family as they attempt to settle into a quiet life in a world that finally feels safe, until events force them to run once again. Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, while Daniela’s growing paranoia pushes her to the edge, and their son Charlie searches for stability as the family faces renewed danger.
Elsewhere, Amanda and Ryan team up in a desperate bid to find their way home. Blair is determined to stop Leighton, who relentlessly pursues his vision of building a perfect world.
Cast and Creative Team
The series stars Joel Edgerton (The Gift, Boy Erased), Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Once Upon a Time in America), and Alice Braga (Elysium, I Am Legend). The season two ensemble also includes Oakes Fegley as Charlie, Jimmi Simpson as Ryan, Amanda Brugel as Blair, and Dayo Okeniyi as Leighton.
Connelly’s Daniela takes on a more central role this season as her character’s paranoia escalates, adding tension to the family storyline that anchors the narrative.
