Google is rolling out the first software update for the Pixel Watch 5, arriving today after last month’s launch of the wearable. The September 2026 release builds on Wear OS 7, which is based on Android 17.
The update moves the Pixel Watch 5 from build CD5A.260611.008, with the August 5, 2026 security patch level, to CP3A.260905.002. As of Tuesday afternoon, the factory and OTA images were not yet available. Owners can check for the download manually by repeatedly tapping Settings, then System, then System updates until the over-the-air package appears.
Google published a detailed changelog, though it largely recaps the software features introduced at the device’s initial launch.
Gemini AI Features on the Pixel Watch 5
A central focus of the update is Gemini personalization. The assistant learns from past conversations and connected Google apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Search, YouTube, and Photos, to deliver tailored responses. Users can ask questions such as “What’s on my calendar today?” or request the tracking number from an email, with results based on their own data. The system combines an offline user profile with real-time online retrieval.
Gemini Intelligence Proactive Suggestions turns multi-step tasks into one-tap actions within messages. If a family member asks about the timing of a dinner, Gemini locates the detail in the calendar and surfaces it on the wrist, removing the need to check a phone.
The update also expands offline capability. Powered by on-device AI, Gemini can process core actions instantly and with low latency even without a connection. Examples include setting a timer, starting or stopping a workout, and enabling Do Not Disturb.
Fitness Tracking and Gesture Controls
Google describes the release as delivering its most accurate GPS route tracking to date, with major improvements to the route maps shown in the Google Health app following running, biking, hiking, and walking sessions. The raise-to-talk gesture model also receives updates and refinements.
Hand gesture support has been broadened significantly. From the watch face, a double pinch can open At a Glance or the notification center. The same gesture scrolls through a Gemini response, cards in the Wallet app, and workout metrics. Users can also double pinch to toggle between Google Maps views and to manage the Recorder app. A wrist turn gesture now works as universal back navigation.
The update rounds out with general bug fixes and improvements across the system. Google notes the OTA rollout is staged, so availability may vary as it reaches more devices in the coming days. The Pixel Watch 5 continues to run Wear OS 7 based on Android 17 with this September release.
