The Google Pixel 11 series is receiving an out-of-cycle software update carrying the September 2026 security patch, arriving ahead of the anticipated stable release of Android 17 QPR1 later this month.
On Tuesday afternoon, Pixel 11 owners began seeing an over-the-air update to build CD1A.260905.001.A1, moving up from CD1A.260714.001.A9. The rollout brings the Android security patch level to September 1, 2026, rather than the more common September 5 designation.
What the Update Includes
The install screen displays Google’s standard security notice, stating that the update fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of the device. No new features or interface changes are highlighted in the release notes.
Early reports indicate the OTA package weighs in at under 100 MB and has reached the Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. As of Tuesday afternoon, Google had not yet published factory or OTA images for the update.
Not Android 17 QPR1
Despite the timing, this release is not Android 17 QPR1. Several of the visual changes expected in that upcoming version are absent, confirming that devices remain on the initial release of Android 17.
Instead, the update appears to function as a hot patch addressing issues found on the Pixel 11 series since the lineup launched last month. Google’s decision to push the fix now, rather than bundling it with the larger Android 17 QPR1 release, suggests the underlying problems warranted a faster response.
The stable version of Android 17 QPR1 is still expected to roll out in September 2026, bringing the design and feature updates that this out-of-cycle patch does not deliver.
