The latest Google Home update resolves alarm-related problems reported by some users while expanding media and smart home voice controls, part of Google’s ongoing work to smooth out rough edges in Gemini for Home.
Smarter voice commands on speakers and displays
The most visible change centers on voice interaction. On smart speakers and displays, Gemini now recognizes a wider range of commands for both media playback and connected home devices. Users can also string multiple requests together in a single sentence, allowing tasks to be completed more quickly.
According to Google, examples of the expanded phrasing include:
“Turn off the lights and stop the music.”
“Skip this song and turn on the backyard lights.”
“Stop captions on this video.”
The ability to combine media commands with other actions is designed to reduce back-and-forth interactions and give users faster control over their environment.
Alarm and Google Keep fixes
The update also addresses a bug that had blocked some users from creating or editing alarms and lists. Because smart speakers and displays are frequently used as bedside alarm clocks, restoring reliable alarm functionality is a meaningful fix for many households. In addition, the release corrects an issue tied to Google Keep integration.
Cleaner automations in the Google Home app
Rounding out the release, the Google Home app now clears out stray automations left behind by third-party apps. The automations editor has also been made easier to navigate, with starters, conditions, and actions automatically organized in alphabetical order. The change is aimed at reducing clutter and helping users build and adjust routines with less friction.
The rollout continues a series of recent improvements to the platform, which have included restored support for older streaming hardware, expanded voice control over lighting, and broader third-party camera compatibility.
