Gemini Spark is expanding its reach with new control over Google Photos, letting the personal agent handle complex, multi-stage workflows across your photo and video library. The addition makes Google Photos the latest first-party Google app the agent can operate on your behalf.
What Gemini Spark Can Do in Google Photos
The integration covers a broad set of actions. For search and curation, users can find specific photos and videos by subject, location, date, or event, request the best shots, and filter out duplicates. On the editing side, Gemini Spark can enhance photo quality, apply quick fixes, and generate collages or stylized images. Any edit produces a new copy that is saved in Google Photos rather than altering the original.
The agent can also create new shared or private albums and save curated photos into them. Album links can be added or sent through Connected Apps such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Messages. Beyond images, Gemini Spark can extract text from photos, then summarize or reformat that information in a Google Document, or use it to complete a related task.
Automations and Multi-Step Prompts
A standout feature is scheduling. Users can set up recurring tasks to manage their Google Photos workflows, such as automatically building monthly highlight albums or sorting images of receipts. These automations pair with core Spark capabilities that run in the background.
Google shared several example prompts that show the multi-action potential. One asks the agent to find top food photos each weekend, build a collage, and add it to a new album titled “What my camera ate this week.” Another combines image analysis with calendar data: checking a photo of a local summer concert series and cross-referencing it with Google Calendar availability to identify which night works.
Additional examples include selecting the best 15 photos from a Hawaii trip, enhancing the beach shots, placing them in a shared album called “Aloha 2026,” and drafting an email with the link. Users can also ask the agent to gather the best photos and videos from a block party into a shared album and draft an email to a neighborhood group, or brighten beach shots and add them to an album named “Beach Therapy.”
Privacy and Availability
Google built in several safeguards. Gemini Spark creates an image copy before making any edits, and new albums are private by default. The agent asks for permission before sharing albums or sending emails.
The Google Photos control is rolling out over the coming weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States.
