Apple’s revamped Health app with an AI-powered health coach could finally arrive next month, potentially timed to the debut of new Apple Watch hardware. The redesign was originally expected in iOS 26.4 earlier this year, but the project was delayed. iOS 27 shipped without it, leaving the update still pending.
With the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 set to debut next month, there is renewed speculation that the long-anticipated software features could appear alongside the fresh hardware.
Why a September Debut Is Plausible
While major software is often unveiled in June at WWDC, Apple has repeatedly introduced Health-related features in September without requiring the newest devices. Low Power Mode arrived in watchOS 9, Sleep Apnea detection came in watchOS 11, and Hypertension notifications launched in watchOS 26, all in September.
That track record makes it likely Apple would hold its latest Health app upgrades for a September event, even if the features do not depend on the new Apple Watch models.
Project Mulberry and Its Timeline
Ahead of WWDC27, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that the Health app upgrades, internally known as Project Mulberry, might not appear at the WWDC keynote, which proved accurate. According to that reporting, the Apple Health app is gaining a range of new AI features that were originally part of a broader health coach service that was scaled back.
The upgrade reportedly includes improved blood sugar-related tracking and the ability to use a device camera to monitor a person’s workout. These features were not expected in the initial release of iOS 27, and Apple could announce them at a later date. A rollout with iOS 27.1 in October remains possible, though a September unveil is not confirmed.
What the Upgrade Includes
Details have shifted as plans evolved. An earlier rumor pointed to a standalone Health+ service featuring videos from doctors, but that approach was reportedly scaled back in favor of integrating the capabilities directly into the standard Health app experience.
Two elements appear clear. The update will feature an AI health coach that offers tips based on Health app data, and it will use the device camera to deliver real-time advice on workouts and other health-related tasks. The upgrade also brings a redesigned Health app interface intended to make the collected data easier to understand.
Beyond those confirmed elements, further specifics remain unclear until Apple formally reveals its plans. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are expected to debut next month.
