Apple has announced a new round of tax and price adjustments affecting apps, In-App Purchases, and subscriptions across several App Store regions. The updates, detailed on the company’s Developer blog, arrive in two phases and apply to developers who rely on Apple’s automated equalized pricing system.
Tax updates take effect immediately
The first phase begins today and revises developer proceeds to reflect new or updated taxes in three countries. In Morocco, a value-added tax (VAT) of 20% is being introduced. The Republic of the Congo sees an 18% VAT introduction, while Tanzania’s digital sales tax (DST) rate rises from 2% to 3%.
These tax changes directly affect what developers earn on each transaction in the impacted storefronts. Apple says the adjustments are part of its routine process for accounting for shifts in tax regulations and foreign exchange rates.
Price changes arrive September 14
The second phase starts on September 14, when App Store prices will be updated in four countries: Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, and the Republic of the Congo. These updates apply to developers who have not selected one of these storefronts as the base storefront for their app or In-App Purchase, and they also factor in the VAT introductions noted above.
Developers who have chosen Israel, Indonesia, Morocco, or the Republic of the Congo as their base storefront will not see prices change on that storefront. On other storefronts, prices will be adjusted to maintain equalization with the developer’s selected base price.
What stays the same
Apple did not publish the specific new prices in its announcement, but the updated amounts are already available in the Pricing and Availability section of App Store Connect. The company notes that prices will not change in any region for auto-renewable subscriptions, nor on storefronts where developers manually manage prices rather than using Apple’s automated equalized pricing.
Developers using manual pricing controls retain full authority over their listed amounts, meaning the automated adjustments apply only to those relying on Apple’s equalization system. The new pricing details can be reviewed directly within App Store Connect ahead of the September 14 rollout.
