Acer is putting repairability front and center with its fourth-generation Vero 16 laptop, unveiled at IFA 2026. Known for budget-friendly machines aimed at students, office workers and entry-level gamers, the company is leaning into the right-to-repair movement at a time when rising component prices are pushing hardware costs higher and making truly affordable laptops harder to find.
The reasoning is straightforward: if buyers are paying more for a so-called budget laptop, they want it to last. The upgradable and serviceable Vero 16 is Acer’s response to those shifting market conditions, and it arrives alongside two new lightweight Swift clamshells also making their debut at the show.
A More Repairable Vero 16
When Acer refreshed the Vero line in 2025, sustainability drove the design. That model featured a chassis built largely from recycled post-consumer plastic and oyster shells, producing a gritty, textured finish flecked with gray-blue specks. The 2026 version carries the sustainability theme further while delivering a more practical machine.
The new Vero 16 is designed for hands-on servicing. Several chassis components, including the bottom cover, hinge and I/O port covers, are removable, giving owners access to the internals for quick fixes. You can replace a failing battery or SSD yourself, and the device is engineered to support processor upgrades across the next two generations. More involved repairs may still require a shop, but a significant amount of maintenance can be handled at home.
Built for Everyday Users
Acer isn’t alone in embracing repairable hardware, but the Vero 16 targets people who may not feel technical enough to benefit from a fully modular option like those from Framework. To lower that barrier, the laptop includes a visual repair guide engraved directly on the chassis, helping owners tackle simple part swaps with more confidence.
The redesign also makes the Vero 16 look less distinctive than its predecessor, a tradeoff buyers can weigh for themselves.
Display Options
Every fourth-generation Vero 16 configuration ships with an OLED panel. Buyers can choose between 2.8K (2,880×1,800-pixel) and 2K (1,920×1,200-pixel) resolution options. The 1,920×1,200-pixel panel supports an optional touchscreen.
