The Google Pixel 12 Pro Fold is reportedly set to adopt a crease-less display, matching the same panel technology expected on Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The upgrade would mark a significant step forward for Google’s foldable line, which has trailed rivals in display design.

Apple’s debut foldable is only days away and, as anticipated for years, is expected to ship with a crease-free screen. A new report indicates Google is preparing to match that approach with its next-generation device.

Google Turns to Samsung Display for Dual-UTG Panels

Google is not alone in the shift. According to the report, Google, Oppo, and Vivo are all working with Samsung Display to bring dual-UTG (ultra-thin glass) displays to their upcoming foldables. The same technology is reportedly slated for Apple’s foldable iPhone as well.

Samsung Display and its partners would build each display and UTG assembly to the specifications of the individual device. The design places one ultra-thin glass layer above the display and a second layer underneath to support the OLED panel. Samsung reached its crease-less result using a special titanium plate beneath the OLED, while Oppo said it filled the crease area with liquid 3D printing to create an even surface, paired with thicker glass.

Release Timing for the Next Foldables

The report notes that Oppo and Vivo both plan releases in the first half of 2027. Google’s next foldable is expected in the second half of the year, likely in August, in line with its usual launch schedule.

The move addresses a clear gap in Google’s current lineup. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is a capable device, but competitors including Oppo, Honor, and most recently Samsung have committed to crease-less displays, leaving Google’s foldable visibly behind. A dual-UTG panel on the Pixel 12 Pro Fold would help close that distance.

Based on the reported schedule, the crease-less Pixel 12 Pro Fold is expected to arrive in the second half of 2027.
