Google Dreambeans is now available for free to test in the United States, opening up an experimental app that previously sat behind a paid subscription. The app comes from Google Labs and is designed to proactively generate personalized daily stories for users on both Android and iOS.
Dreambeans functions much like a hyper-personalized version of Google Now or the Discover feed. It relies on Google’s Personal Intelligence system, the same technology behind the Gemini app and AI Mode, to learn about your interests. During setup, users choose which services the app can access, and the process can take up to a day to build the first set of stories.
How Dreambeans Builds Your Feed
The app pulls signals from a range of Google services to understand who you are. Workspace supplies transaction data such as receipts and upcoming flights, while Google Photos provides visual memories and context about the people in your life. YouTube identifies your active hobbies, and Search detects new and emerging interests.
By combining these signals, Dreambeans generates rich, customized daily visual stories. It suggests topics to explore, things to try, places to visit, and events of interest. Fresh stories arrive every morning. The name reflects how the app operates overnight to find meaning across your connected apps, then distills what it discovers into a collection of stories brewed for you each day.
Custom Artwork and Interactive Details
Rather than using stock photos, every story includes artwork generated by Nano Banana 2 in an illustrated style. If the app recommends a hike, for example, you might see an image of yourself and friends at that spot. Tapping a story opens a longer description with trail details, suggested stops, clothing recommendations, and timing advice, along with links to relevant guides on the web.
An Ask anything chat feature lets users request more information about any story. Feedback tools include a heart for approval and a downvote option, while the chat interface allows for more detailed input. A “Tune your feed” setting lets users specify what they want to see more of and what should never appear.
Dreambeans first launched in June for Google AI Ultra subscribers, then expanded to AI Pro subscribers earlier in the month before opening to all free Google Accounts. The current experience is largely standalone, and it is unclear how the app will eventually move beyond Google Labs. Some of its capabilities could benefit the more text-focused Daily Brief in the Gemini app by adding a stronger visual layer.
