Google Clock is rolling out a redesigned Timers tab on Android, bringing new presets and a cleaner layout to one of the app’s most-used features. The update follows a fresh app icon and comes shortly after a similar refresh for the Now Playing app.
New Timer Presets and Layout Changes
The headline addition is a set of presets for 1, 5, 10, and 15 minutes. Tapping any of these options immediately begins a countdown, cutting out the manual entry step for common durations.
Google has also updated the labels at the top of the screen. The abbreviated h, m, and s markers have been replaced with the full words Hours, Minutes, and Seconds, making the interface easier to read at a glance.
A large green Start pill now sits at the bottom of the screen, taking the place of the previous icon-based button. The number pad has dropped its circular backgrounds, giving the screen a flatter appearance. The result is a busier interface that Google positions as more efficient for everyday use.
Multiple Timers Get a Grid View
Users who run several timers at once will notice a shift from the older scrollable list to a grid layout. The timer cards have been made smaller, allowing more of them to fit on screen and making better use of available space.
The single-timer view remains unchanged in its overall look. However, the controls have been repositioned. The pause button now appears inside the circular countdown, while the reset control sits outside of it.
How to Get the Update
The Timers redesign is arriving through a server-side update tied to version 9.1 of Google Clock. Because the rollout is handled on the server side, not every device will see the new design immediately, even after installing the latest version.
Users who want to check whether the change is available can force stop the app. This is done through the App info menu on Android, which can prompt the updated interface to appear on a next launch.
The refreshed Timers tab is part of Google’s broader effort to modernize its core utility apps on Android in 2026.
