The MacBook Neo 2 is shaping up to be a meaningful upgrade over Apple’s most affordable laptop, according to reports detailing the next-generation model. Apple launched the original MacBook Neo in March 2026, and it has performed well since its debut. Here’s what the follow-up is expected to deliver.
A19 Pro chip and expanded memory
The current MacBook Neo runs on the A18 Pro, the same chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro. The next model is expected to move to the A19 Pro, the processor that powers the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air.
Performance gains should be notable. The A19 Pro is roughly 10-15% faster than the A18 Pro in single-core and multi-core CPU tests. GPU improvements are even larger, with benchmarks pointing to gains of up to 40%, thanks to Neural Accelerators built into every GPU core.
Apple is likely to use a binned version of the chip in the laptop. While the iPhone 17 Pro version has a 6-core GPU, the MacBook Neo edition is expected to feature a 5-core GPU.
Memory is also getting a boost. The original model shipped with 8GB of RAM, while the rest of Apple’s Mac lineup now starts at 16GB. The second-generation model won’t reach 16GB, but it is expected to offer 12GB of RAM, enabled by the A19 Pro.
New AI features and color options
The pairing of the A19 Pro and 12GB of RAM should unlock support for Apple’s more capable on-device AI model introduced at WWDC. That model powers a more accurate dictation experience and new options for customizing the Siri voice. The current MacBook Neo cannot run these features because of its A18 Pro chip and 8GB of RAM.
Color choices remain a signature of the lineup. The MacBook Neo is offered in citrus, blush, indigo, and silver, and Apple reportedly plans to refresh the color options periodically. Specific colors for the next model have not been detailed.
Expected release date
Apple released the current MacBook Neo in March 2026. The A19 Pro version of the laptop is reported to be scheduled for release sometime in 2027.
