Apple is set to hold its major September launch event next week, and as fresh hardware debuts, the company is expected to phase out more than a dozen current devices across its lineup.
When Apple introduces new products, it routinely retires older models in the same categories. Based on the rumors circulating ahead of the September 9 event, shoppers could see 10 or more devices removed from the store.
Which Apple Products Could Be Discontinued
The list of devices that may be pulled from sale spans phones, wearables, audio gear, and home products. It includes the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Plus. On the wearable side, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 could be replaced.
Audio and home accessories are also on the list, including the AirPods 4, AirPods 4 with ANC, Apple TV 4K (3rd generation), HomePod mini (1st generation), and HomePod (2nd generation).
Some of these are far more likely to disappear than others. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max have sold well, but Apple consistently discontinues its previous Pro models to make room for new flagships.
The iPhone 16 and Home Product Wildcards
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, along with certain Home devices, are harder to call. In a typical year, Apple would launch a new base-model iPhone 18, cut the price of the iPhone 17, and retire the iPhone 16.
However, widespread reporting suggests both the iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 have slipped into early 2027. That timing makes it unclear whether Apple will keep selling the iPhone 16 at least until those replacements arrive.
Pricing adds another layer of uncertainty. Because of significant price increases affecting most Apple products, the company could keep older devices in the lineup longer at reduced prices while positioning newer versions at higher tiers.
What to Expect Next Week
Regardless of the exact cuts, Apple is preparing a substantial September event, and that generally means many of the devices above will receive successors that push them out of the current catalog.
For those tracking accessories, the AirTag 2 four-pack is now EUR 68, down from EUR 85. Other popular add-ons include a MagSafe car mount, a HomeKit smart plug two-pack, and a 100W USB-C fast-charging power adapter. Apple also offers refurbished iPhones at a 15% discount.
The September 9 event is expected to confirm which current products stay and which are officially retired.
