Xiaomi is expanding well beyond smartphones, and its latest reveal puts the company on a direct collision course with rivals. The centerpiece is the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a passport-shaped foldable designed to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup and Apple’s rumored folding iPhone. Unveiled behind glass for the first time, the device drew attention for dimensions closely matching Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the anticipated Apple folding iPhone Ultra.
The most notable technical detail is that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will be the first phone to run the company’s own in-house Xring 03 processor. That marks a shift away from Qualcomm chips, which powered Xiaomi’s previous handsets, including its Leica-developed Leitzphone. The move mirrors the strategy already adopted by Apple and Google, both of which design custom silicon for their phones to strengthen their broader ecosystems.
The wider foldable format delivers a larger inner display, which is better suited for watching video. Full specifications, pricing, and regional availability have not yet been announced. The phone is due in September, with more details expected in the coming days.
Xiaomi Brings the Mijia Smart Home Brand to Europe
Alongside the foldable, Xiaomi introduced a trio of home tech products under its Mijia brand. Leading the lineup is the Mijia Refrigerator Pro Cryo Fresh, a double-door fridge that uses air circulation and nano blue light sterilization to keep food fresher for longer, aimed at reducing food waste.
The company also revealed the Mijia Tri-Drum Washer Dryer Pro, which uses three separate drums and promises a 35% increase in energy efficiency. Rounding out the group is the Mijia Conditioner Turbo Pro, built to deliver high power for both cooling and heating a room.
While some Xiaomi smart home products were already available across Europe, the company is now using its presence at the show to introduce the wider Mijia brand to the region. “This year’s IFA marks a significant milestone in Xiaomi’s global journey,” said Xu Fei, Xiaomi’s chief marketing officer. “This goes beyond bringing more products to Europe. It is about bringing Xiaomi’s technology and ecosystem capabilities to more users across the region.”
Electric Cars and a Broader Ecosystem Push
The product launches reflect Xiaomi’s ambition to build a connected ecosystem spanning phones, appliances, and vehicles. The company’s name already appears on cars, fans, air fryers, and robot vacuums. Xiaomi has confirmed plans to bring its range of electric cars to Europe starting in 2027, including the SU7 first shown at MWC 2025.
Final pricing and availability for the new Mijia smart home products have not yet been confirmed. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is scheduled to arrive in September.
