Withings is expanding what its BeamO device can do. At IFA 2026, the company introduced StethO Sense, a service that applies third-party AI to interpret heart and lung recordings captured by the device. The feature becomes available to Withings+ members starting October 1.
Launched last November, BeamO is a three-in-one, FDA-cleared tool that works as a stethoscope, an electrocardiogram and a thermometer. While it reliably measures temperature and records heart and lung sounds, those readings have traditionally required a physician to interpret. StethO Sense aims to bridge that gap by delivering automated insights in seconds.
“StethO Sense lets families record heart sounds at home, in seconds, as often as they want, and build a record they can bring to their doctor,” said BeamO Product Manager Livia Robic in a statement. “It doesn’t replace a visit; rather, StethO Sense gives you additional health data to bring to one.”
How the AI Analysis Works
StethO Sense relies on two specialized AI systems. For cardiac sounds, it uses eMurmur Heart AI, an FDA-cleared algorithm validated in peer-reviewed clinical studies covering both children and adults. The software analyzes BeamO’s heart recordings, taken at one of four positions, and distinguishes between no murmur, an abnormal murmur and an innocent murmur. It also supplies a confidence score for each result.
For respiratory sounds, the service uses StethoMe, an AI company focused on pulmonary sound analysis. StethoMe follows an age-based protocol, using six lung-recording points for children and eight for adults. It then generates a Breathing Index score from zero to 100, based on breathing quality, sounds and rate, along with respiratory rhythm and heart rate, to help users spot changes in their breathing patterns.
StethoMe is intended for general lung sound tracking. It is not designed for people with a diagnosed respiratory condition such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchitis. Both BeamO and StethO Sense can be used on children and adults.
Pricing, Access and Limitations
StethO Sense lives inside the Withings app, but it requires a Withings+ premium membership, priced at EUR 9 per month or EUR 86 per year. From the StethO Sense section, users select a heart or lung recording for analysis and receive results within seconds. Use is unlimited.
The service was designed to complement the Withings+ Cardio Check-Up feature, which lets users submit an ECG recording—a measure of the heart’s electrical signals—to a cardiologist for review within 24 hours, up to four times per year.
Results from StethO Sense are not diagnoses. All recordings and analyses are exportable so they can be shared with a doctor. BeamO’s one-button design and anatomical diagrams keep the device straightforward to operate.
Beginning October 1, Withings+ subscribers can access StethO Sense, with a one-month free trial available.
