The Sonos Ace Ultra has arrived as the follow-up to the company’s premium Ace noise-canceling headphones. Priced at EUR 387, the new model introduces Sonos-designed 40-millimeter drivers, upgraded adaptive noise canceling, and a redesigned system for connecting directly to your Sonos speakers. Preorders open today, with shipping set to begin on September 29.
The Ace Ultra is available in four finishes: black, soft white, agave and sand. It shares much of its design language with the original Ace, but Sonos has fitted it with new rebound foam ear cushions intended to passively block more ambient noise while improving comfort.
What’s New Inside the Ace Ultra
Beyond the new drivers, one of the headline upgrades is a 10-microphone array, with five microphones in each earcup. That’s an increase over the eight microphones in the previous model, and it should benefit both noise-canceling and voice-call performance.
The Ace Ultra weighs 322 grams, about 10 grams more than the original Ace. It runs on Bluetooth 6.0 paired with an upgraded 5-series Qualcomm chip that supports the SBC, AAC and aptX Adaptive Lossless audio codecs, though the lossless option is limited to a relatively small number of phones. Spatial audio and USB-C audio are also included.
Battery life is rated at 35 hours with noise canceling enabled at moderate volume, an improvement over the 30-hour rating on the earlier Ace.
Headphone Engine 2 and Direct Sonos Linking
Sonos says the Ace Ultra is the first pair of headphones built on its Headphone Engine 2, which enables direct linking to your Sonos system with the press of a button. A second press unlinks the headphones.
The original Ace was designed to pair with Sonos soundbars for private cinema-style listening without disturbing others in the home. The Ace Ultra takes that concept further. According to Sonos, Headphone Engine 2 features redesigned Wi-Fi hardware and secure credential storage that allow the headphones to connect directly to and participate in the Sonos system. Whatever is playing across your Sonos setup can transfer to the headphones with one button press, and another press sends the audio back to your speakers.

Alongside the new headphones, Sonos introduced the Beam Ultra Soundbar at EUR 603 and Sonos 27, the latest version of its audio operating system. The Beam Ultra is also available for preorder today and ships on September 29.
The original Ace headphones launched in June 2024, shortly after a widely criticized redesign of the Sonos app that dropped features and introduced bugs. With additional development time behind the new model, the Ace Ultra is positioned for smoother integration with Sonos systems.
