Free Live TV on PS5 is rolling out today, giving console owners access to more than 100 live channels at no cost. The launch marks Sony’s return to television streaming, seven years after it shut down its subscription-based PlayStation Vue service in 2019.
The new offering is ad-supported, meaning viewers can watch without a subscription fee in exchange for commercial breaks. It arrives as one of the later entries in the FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) category, following established rivals such as the Roku Channel, Tubi and Sling Freestream.
What You Can Watch on PS5 Live TV
The channel lineup draws from Sony Pictures Television and additional partners, including NBC and Fox News. Sports programming is part of the mix, alongside movies from MovieSphere and FilmRise Free Movies. Popular series such as The Walking Dead are available, and anime fans can stream titles through Crunchyroll.
Beyond traditional TV, the service adds gaming and esports content, creator-led entertainment, documentaries, podcasts and specialty programming. Sony also highlighted exclusive content such as eCLUTCH as part of the initial catalog.
How to Access Live TV on Your Console
To start watching, head to the Media tab on the PS5 home screen and select the Live TV on PS5 icon. No separate app download or account is required beyond your existing console setup.
Sony confirmed that the service will expand beyond the console. Support for Bravia TVs is planned for later this year, extending the free streaming experience to the company’s smart televisions.
New Content and Regional Expansion
The company plans to build out the catalog over time, adding fresh programming as the platform matures. Geographic availability is also set to grow, with Canada named as the first market beyond the initial launch.
Sony’s earlier live TV effort, PlayStation Vue, was a paid product that competed with YouTube TV and Sling before its 2019 closure. The new free model represents a different strategy, prioritizing broad access over subscription revenue. Sony has confirmed that Bravia TV support will follow later in the year.
