Microsoft is overhauling the way it reports financial results to investors, restructuring its business into two segments and disclosing quarterly Azure cloud revenue for the first time. The company says the changes are designed to reflect the ongoing impact of artificial intelligence on its operations and how it now runs its business.

From Three Segments to Two

Until now, Microsoft has reported revenue across three segments: Productivity and Business Processes, Intelligent Cloud, and More Personal Computing. That structure is being simplified into two segments: Agents and Infra, and Devices and Consumer.

The new framework is intended to give investors a clearer view of how AI-driven products and cloud infrastructure fit into the wider company, as those areas take on a larger role in Microsoft’s strategy.

What Devices and Consumer Includes

The Devices and Consumer segment will bring together search and advertising revenue, including income from LinkedIn and search advertising. Consolidating these consumer-facing and advertising businesses into a single reporting line is part of the broader effort to align the financial structure with the way Microsoft operates today.

First Look at Azure Revenue

The most notable change for investors is the decision to disclose quarterly revenue for the Azure cloud business on its own. Azure has been a central pillar of Microsoft’s growth, but the company had not previously broken out its revenue as a standalone figure. Reporting it separately gives investors and analysts a more direct measure of how the cloud platform is performing each quarter.

By pairing cloud infrastructure with its AI-focused Agents business, Microsoft is signaling how closely tied these areas have become as demand for AI services continues to shape enterprise technology spending in the United States and beyond. The reporting changes mark one of the most significant updates to how the software maker presents its finances to the market.
