The Lenovo ThinkBook Project Swan is the company’s newest rollable laptop concept, unveiled at IFA 2026. This business machine features a display that expands horizontally, growing from 14 inches to a wider 17-inch panel on demand.
Rather than adding vertical height, the screen rolls outward to shift from a standard work format into a 16:9 aspect ratio suited for streaming and media. The design lets users transition from productivity tasks to entertainment without carrying a second device.
How the Rollable Display Works
The rollable screen is the centerpiece of Project Swan. When extended, it moves from a compact 14-inch footprint to a broader 17-inch layout, changing the usable workspace while keeping the laptop’s core form factor intact. The horizontal expansion gives the panel a widescreen 16:9 shape, making it well suited for video content.
Compared with Lenovo’s earlier vertically expanding designs, Project Swan takes a more restrained approach. Instead of pushing the display upward, the concept widens the screen sideways, offering additional horizontal space for multitasking or full-width media playback.
Lenovo’s Rollable Track Record
Lenovo has explored rollable displays across several projects. The company has shown multiple concepts over time and moved beyond experimentation by shipping a commercial product, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6, which used a vertically expanding screen.
Project Swan builds on that foundation but changes direction. Where the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 stretched its display vertically, this new concept focuses on horizontal growth, positioning the laptop as a flexible tool that can serve both office work and after-hours viewing.
As a concept device shown at IFA 2026, Project Swan demonstrates how Lenovo continues to refine expandable-screen technology for the business laptop segment, with the display capable of unrolling from 14 to 17 inches.
