Lenovo’s new IdeaPad Vibe is the company’s answer to Apple’s budget MacBook Neo, and it arrived alongside a wide lineup of laptops, desktops, and prototypes the company unveiled Thursday at IFA. The affordable, colorful series targets students and value-focused buyers who want a premium-feeling Windows machine without a premium price.
Lenovo cast a wide net at the show. New Yoga laptops and convertibles built around Nvidia’s RTX Spark are aimed at creative professionals who might otherwise consider Apple’s MacBook Pro. The company also expanded its corporate ThinkBook laptops and ThinkCentre desktops, and, as usual, brought concept hardware, including a prototype with a rollable, expandable display.
How the IdeaPad Vibe Compares to the MacBook Neo
The success of the MacBook Neo has pushed PC makers to chase the same formula: a premium look and feel, a high-resolution display, long battery life, and eye-catching colors. Dell has already released two competitors, and Lenovo now joins with the Vibe.
On paper, the Vibe matches most of the Neo’s strengths. It starts at the same EUR 603 price. Unlike Apple, Lenovo will not offer a dedicated EUR 86 student discount. Instead, the company says the Vibe will fall into its regular rotating sale pricing over time, though it hasn’t confirmed whether that will bring the price down to EUR 517 or lower.
The entry-level configuration ships with 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD, identical to the base Neo’s specs. Lenovo offers 16GB, 24GB, and 32GB memory options, plus 512GB and 1TB storage upgrades, but those additions push the price up quickly, potentially approaching or exceeding EUR 861.
Colors, Configurations, and Sizes
Color is central to the Vibe’s appeal. Lenovo offers seven finishes: chill blue, moody blue, zen green, spicy gold, radiant coral, dreamy violet, and lowkey grey. The keyboard is color-matched to the chassis, and buyers can purchase a second keyboard and swap individual keycaps to mix and match shades, such as adding spicy gold keys to a radiant coral body.
The Vibe offers more color choices than the Neo and is significantly more configurable. It comes in two sizes, with a 14-inch or 15-inch display, and each is available in IPS or OLED versions. Buyers can also choose between an AMD Ryzen AI 400 series chip or a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor.
For buyers weighing more powerful alternatives, Lenovo also introduced a colorful IdeaCentre all-in-one PC positioned against Apple’s iMac, along with second-generation updates to its two Yoga Tab tablets, which now include an improved pen for sketching and drawing.
The IdeaPad Vibe launches with a starting price of EUR 603 across its 14-inch and 15-inch models.
