Google Pics is Google’s new entry into the creative design market, an AI-powered image-creation and editing tool that lets you generate visuals by typing a prompt rather than designing from scratch. The tool will become part of the Google Workspace suite for business customers, as well as premium subscribers on Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
According to Google, the product is powered by its Nano Banana image-generation model and will roll out over the coming weeks to most Workspace customers and those paying for Google AI Pro or Ultra. It is designed for the everyday design tasks people encounter at work and, at times, in their personal lives, such as building a poster, creating social media posts, and producing other visuals and illustrations.
How Google Pics Differs From Canva and Adobe Express
Google Pics targets the same space as popular tools like Canva and Adobe Express, but its approach is different. On Canva, artists, illustrators, and photographers can publish templates, graphics, photos, and other artwork to a marketplace where they earn royalties. Google Pics, by contrast, centers on creating imagery through AI that was trained on artists’ work.
The tool also diverges from Adobe Express, which creators often use to make original work in the first place. With Google Pics, users prompt the system to generate content rather than design something new manually.
Editing Features and Collaboration
Beyond image generation, the app includes a range of editing tools. Users can isolate and transform objects, modify or translate text inside images, and apply other adjustments. The software supports collaborative editing, and it can create several different generations of a requested image so users can choose the best result.
Availability Across Workspace Apps
Google Pics will be built directly into Google Workspace. The integration starts with Docs and Slides, which begins rolling out today, and it will later expand to Google Drive, the company says.
