DLSS 5 is now running on Nvidia RTX 4000 Series graphics cards, thanks to a modder-created patch that sidesteps the technology’s initial hardware restrictions. The breakthrough follows the leaked release of the DLSS 5 nvngxdlssnr.dll file, which modders quickly began integrating into games beyond its original appearance in Remedy Entertainment’s Control.

The leaked file first surfaced inside the early access build of NBA 2K27, where it enabled Nvidia’s new Neural Rendering technique. From there, the community moved fast, porting the feature into additional titles and experimenting with how far the technology could be pushed on existing hardware.

How Modders Made It Work

Much of the development activity has centered on the RenoDX Discord server, where contributors have been figuring out how to activate the DLSS 5 files across different games. The method relies on both ReShade and RenoDX to load the additional files into software that does not officially support the feature.

The catch was that the available binary initially ran only on RTX 5000 Series Blackwell GPUs. That limitation existed even though the AI model inside the DLL uses FP8, a format that Ada Lovelace hardware can read and execute. The real barrier came down to certain CUDA binaries that only Blackwell GPUs are able to interpret.

The Patch That Bypassed the Barrier

An RTX Remix modder known as “Uncle Burrito” resolved the issue by rewriting the incompatible portions of the file. The modder explained the process as identifying which binaries were not compatible with Ada Lovelace, then swapping in fresh, compatible versions. According to the modder, the NBA 2K27 build appeared to be an early development version, which likely meant Ada-equivalent binaries had never been created for it in the first place.

The patch has been confirmed working on an Nvidia RTX 4080, and multiple additional versions of the fix are being developed by other members of the RenoDX community.

What This Means for Older GPUs

Official DLSS 5 support for non-Blackwell hardware has not been confirmed. Given how quickly modders enabled the feature on previous-generation cards, Nvidia could decide to bring it to older GPUs as well. Extending support to Ampere and earsier hardware would be far more difficult, however, because those cards lack native FP8 support.
