CarPlay now supports five major AI chatbot apps following the arrival of Claude, Anthropic’s conversational assistant. The update makes Claude the second chatbot to gain CarPlay compatibility this week, expanding the roster of voice-driven AI tools available to drivers using Apple’s in-car interface.

Support for conversational apps on CarPlay began with iOS 26.4, when Apple opened the platform to a new category that includes AI chatbots. The list has grown steadily since then, and the latest additions signal how quickly developers are adapting their iPhone apps for use behind the wheel.

Which AI Chatbots Work With CarPlay

Claude joins an existing lineup that already featured ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok. Just a few days before Claude’s rollout, Meta AI also picked up CarPlay support, bringing the total to five major AI assistants. Each app allows drivers to interact using voice commands while keeping their focus on the road.

The Claude iPhone update marks the first version of the app to include CarPlay functionality. Once connected, the app displays a list of recent conversations that users can resume, or they can start a fresh voice chat using Claude’s voice feature. The interface is designed for hands-free interaction, aligning with CarPlay’s broader emphasis on safety and simplicity.

Siri AI Joins With iOS 27

The AI chatbot expansion coincides with a larger shift in Apple’s in-car software. Siri AI is set to arrive on CarPlay starting with iOS 27, giving Apple’s own assistant a more prominent role alongside third-party options. The iOS 27 update is currently available in beta, with an official release expected later this month.

CarPlay’s broader app ecosystem continues to grow beyond conversational tools. The platform now works with more than 120 popular iPhone apps, covering navigation, music, messaging, and other categories that drivers rely on during commutes and longer trips.

The addition of AI chatbots reflects the increasing role of conversational technology in everyday devices. By supporting multiple assistants rather than a single option, CarPlay gives users the flexibility to choose the AI tool that fits their preferences, whether that means ChatGPT for general queries, Perplexity for search, Grok, Meta AI, or Claude.

With Claude now live, all five AI chatbot apps are available to CarPlay users running compatible versions of Apple’s software.
