Tim Cook has been honoured at a special gathering held at Apple Park, marking the end of his tenure as chief executive before he formally steps down on 1 September 2026. The event, attended by around 200 people, served as both a going away celebration and an acknowledgement of the milestone of his 15 years leading the company.
The gathering took place on 23 August, a date chosen for its significance. Cook became Apple CEO exactly 15 years earlier, making the occasion a fitting moment to recognise his contribution to the company across a decade and a half.
OneRepublic Performs at Apple Park
The celebration featured a live performance by OneRepublic, adding a headline musical act to the private event. Apple has a history of marking notable moments with such gatherings, and this occasion combined the recognition of Cook’s anniversary with his forthcoming departure from the top role.
Roughly 200 guests were in attendance at the Apple Park venue, the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, for the evening’s proceedings.
Cook Remains at Apple as Executive Chairman
Although he is stepping down as chief executive, Cook is not leaving the company entirely. He will continue in the role of Executive Chairman, taking on responsibilities that include acting as a liaison with government. This means his involvement with Apple will persist beyond the September handover, albeit in a different capacity.
The transition brings to a close a chapter that began 15 years ago, when Cook first assumed the position of chief executive. His scheduled departure from the CEO role is set for 1 September 2026.
