Pixel 11 Pro XL vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: Camera Compared

Pixel 11 Pro XL vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: Camera Compared
Pixel 11 Pro XL vs Galaxy S26 Ultra: how the two 2026 Android flagships compare on camera hardware, telephoto zoom and real-world photography.

The Pixel 11 Pro XL has arrived as Google’s 2026 flagship, introducing a series of improvements to its camera system and setting up one of the most closely watched Android photography contests of the year against the Galaxy S26 Ultra. These are the two handsets that most readily come to mind when discussing flagship cameras in Western markets, making this a natural head-to-head.

Dozens of photos have been captured on both devices to assess how they perform in everyday conditions, from bright daylight through to more demanding night-time scenes. The comparison focuses on real-world results and how the final images actually look, rather than specifications alone.

Camera hardware differences

The Pixel 11 Pro XL uses a 50 MP main camera with OIS and PDAF, an F1.7 aperture and a 1/1.3″ sensor. It is joined by a 48 MP ultra-wide (F1.7, 1/2.51″) and a 48 MP periscope telephoto offering 5.0x optical zoom (F2.8, 1/1.95″). The front camera is a 42 MP unit with PDAF.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra counters with a 200 MP main camera built on the Samsung ISOCELL HP2 sensor, with OIS, PDAF, an F1.4 aperture, a 23 mm focal length and a 1/1.3″ sensor. It pairs this with a 50 MP ultra-wide (Samsung ISOCELL JN3, F1.9), a 10 MP telephoto (Sony IMX754, 3.0x optical zoom, OIS) and a second 50 MP periscope telephoto (Sony IMX854, 5.0x optical zoom, F2.9, 115 mm focal length). The front camera is a 12 MP sensor with PDAF and HDR.

Two approaches to zoom

A key distinction lies in the telephoto strategy. The Pixel 11 Pro XL relies on a single telephoto camera paired with a larger sensor, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra deploys two dedicated telephoto cameras to cover a wider range of zoom distances. This shapes how each handset handles zoomed images across different focal lengths.

Both devices are already available to purchase. The Pixel 11 Pro XL, with its 6.8-inch display, can be bought at Amazon, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra is offered through the Samsung Store with trade-in savings, a 15% discount on the Buds 4 series, or credit for accessories without a trade-in.
