TikTok comments are becoming far more interactive. The social network announced Thursday that it is rolling out a set of new tools for its comment sections, including voice comments, comment polls, photo carousel comments, and Live Photo comments.
With these additions, TikTok is borrowing features long associated with messaging apps as it works to deepen engagement across its platform. By combining audio, polls, and multi-photo replies, the company wants comment sections to become spaces where users linger and interact with one another, rather than simply drop feedback beneath a video.
How Voice Comments Work
To leave a voice comment, users tap the microphone icon in the comment box and record a message of up to one minute. Once posted, anyone can tap to listen to the audio clip directly under the video.
TikTok said voice comments are subject to the same Community Guidelines that govern other content on the platform. The company relies on a mix of human moderators and automated detection tools, including speech-to-text transcription, to identify and remove content that violates its policies.
Voice comments are rolling out globally over the next month to users 18 and older.
Polls and Photo Comments Expand
Creators can now add a poll when commenting on their own videos. The feature was previously available to a limited group but is now offered globally. According to TikTok, polls can be used to vote on the next video idea, pick an outfit, decide what to cook, and more.
Creators can list up to five options for viewers to vote on and set a timeframe for the poll. As votes arrive, creators can track the results directly in the comment section.
With photo carousel comments, users can attach up to nine photos in a single comment, an increase from the previous limit of one image at a time. TikTok is also introducing Live Photo comments, which the company says allow for a brief burst of motion, giving others a quick preview of a moment before they view the full image.
Availability Across the App
Live Photo comments are available globally now, while photo carousel comments are rolling out worldwide over the next month. The rollout continues TikTok’s broader effort to reshape its comment sections into interactive hubs modeled on the features found in dedicated messaging apps.
