The Witcher 3 Remastered Arrives Free in September

The Witcher 3 Remastered Arrives Free in September
The Witcher 3 Remastered launches free on 29 September, with the Songs of the Past expansion arriving in 2027 and The Witcher 4 expected in 2028.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered was the standout reveal at Gamescom 2026, which opened on Tuesday with Opening Night Live in Cologne, Germany. Europe’s major gaming showcase presented numerous new titles, but the remaster and expansion for the 11-year-old role-playing classic captured the most attention.

Developer CD Projekt Red confirmed that the updated version of the game will launch on 29 September as a free upgrade for anyone who owns the title on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S consoles. The same day, the remaster will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch 2 and Battle.net.

What the Remaster Includes

The refreshed edition of the 2015 game brings a broad set of improvements. These include smoother combat, interface enhancements, a revamped skill tree and an expanded photo mode. Players will also find new finishing moves alongside numerous graphical upgrades to textures, lighting and ray tracing.

In addition to the free September upgrade, CD Projekt Red is making the game’s two expansions free from Tuesday. Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine both arrived in the year following the original release, adding fresh content including an extended story and a large new region.

Songs of the Past Expansion in 2027

A new expansion titled Songs of the Past is scheduled for 2027 and will serve as the final chapter for series protagonist Geralt of Rivia. It introduces a new land called Letten, a region with its own identity that is filled with questions, monsters and a dark secret. Players will confront never-before-seen enemies and wield new weapons in what could be Geralt’s last adventure.

Looking further ahead, The Witcher 4 is expected in 2028 and will centre on Geralt’s adopted daughter and fellow Witcher, Ciri.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is available now across multiple platforms, though the free upgrade will only be offered for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Songs of the Past is currently slated for release solely on PC and Xbox Series consoles, though this could change closer to launch.
