Runway’s Solaris is a new type of artificial intelligence model that lets you build interactive websites and other digital environments without writing any code. Announced on Monday, the model introduces what Runway calls an interface world model, letting users create by directly interacting with elements on the screen rather than programming them.

Unlike so-called vibe coding, Solaris relies on live rendering that generates digital environments in real time, frame by frame. The approach could open up design possibilities for people who lack traditional coding skills, turning on-screen clicks and drags into building blocks for applications and interfaces.

How Runway’s Solaris Works

Solaris functions by combining reasoning and rendering. The model generates the interface itself, frame by frame, while a language model determines how that interface evolves over time. Together, the two systems produce real-time environments that adapt to how a user interacts with them.

When you click on or drag an element, Solaris treats those interactions as conditioning signals to generate the next set of frames. The result feels like a livestreaming video that constantly changes in response to user input, rather than a static page or app.

What You Can Build With Solaris

Because the model is entirely visual, it supports a range of use cases. Runway offers the example of a virtual clothing store: using an image of yourself as a reference, you could click on a shirt on a rack and drag it onto your image to see how it looks. AI-assisted clothing try-ons are not new, but this method differs from approaches shown by Google.

Users can also issue text-based prompts, such as asking the model to change the color of an object or move an element within a photo to a different spot. That mix of visual manipulation and written instructions gives the tool flexibility for both design and everyday editing tasks.

Why World Models Matter

AI world models are widely expected to be the next major frontier in the field. Unlike a typical large language model, world models are built to translate and transform aspects of the physical world, extending AI beyond text generation into interactive, simulated environments. Solaris is one early example of this emerging category.

Runway’s announcement did not specify when Solaris would become available to customers, and the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
