The Dyson CameraJet is the company’s latest attempt at a two-in-one device, combining an electric toothbrush and a flosser into a single tool designed to clean between your teeth as you brush. Announced on Tuesday, it marks another hybrid experiment for Dyson, following the short-lived Zone air-purifying headphones. Unlike that earlier product, pairing a toothbrush with a targeted flosser makes clear practical sense, even if a camera isn’t a feature most people expect from an oral care device.

At the center of the CameraJet is a built-in endoscope camera that analyzes 28 images per second. As you move the device across your teeth, it identifies the gaps that need attention and shoots bursts of liquid rinse into them. Dyson calls this the Gap Optical Targeting system.

How the Camera and Fluid Jet Work

The targeting system relies on a macro-lens camera and a machine learning algorithm trained on 470,000 dental images collected during the six years Dyson spent developing the product. According to the company, the process takes just 100 milliseconds: the camera detects a gap and flushes it with mouth rinse while you continue brushing normally.

The fluid delivery itself uses a conical jet, which Dyson claims removes plaque more effectively than the needle-type jets found in standalone water flossers. The cone-shaped stream covers a wider area using less pressure, making it gentler on gums and enamel. To refine the design, Dyson developed its own proxy plaque in collaboration with the National University of Singapore’s Faculty of Dentistry, allowing engineers to test performance in the lab without running a clinical trial after every change.

A tank below the brush holds 12.5 milliliters of alcohol-free mouth rinse. A diaphragm pump and pressure chamber keep the jets firing regardless of how the brush is held, which Dyson says gives the CameraJet an advantage over rivals that lose performance when tilted. A docking station refills the rinse in three seconds at the touch of a button, recharges the device, and stores it on the sink. A travel case is also included.

Brush Head and Cleaning Performance

The bristle head is contoured to cover more of each tooth’s surface, with firmer inner bristles and softer outer bristles. An embedded RFID tag tracks how many cleans it has completed so users know when to replace it, and a softer version is available for sensitive teeth and gums.

The CameraJet also uses variable sonic oscillation, adjusting the angle of vibration as you brush. Dyson says this prevents the bristles from stalling under pressure. The company’s headline claim is that the device removes up to 69 percent more plaque than market-leading premium electric toothbrushes in hard-to-reach areas.
