ChatGPT and Codex now support multiple Gmail and Google Calendar accounts, OpenAI confirmed this week. The update removes a longstanding restriction that limited each connected plugin to a single Google account, a change aimed at users who juggle separate personal and professional inboxes and schedules.
Until now, people relying on ChatGPT plugins for Google services could link only one account per plugin. That made it difficult to work across a personal Gmail and a work inbox, or to manage more than one calendar, within the same tool. The new multi-account capability applies to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts.
How to add a second or third account
Adding another account takes only a few steps. In the left sidebar, open the Plugins section and search for Gmail, Google Calendar, or Google Contacts. If a plugin is already connected, click the gear icon and choose to add another account. Users then complete the standard Google authorization process to finish linking. The same method supports a second or third account for each service.
The rollout was confirmed by OpenAI DX engineer Gabriel Chua, who outlined the setup process publicly.
What multi-account support enables
In practice, the change lets one ChatGPT conversation draw on a personal Gmail account while another handles work tasks through a separate account, its contacts, and its calendar. That separation makes it easier to keep personal and professional workflows distinct while still using the same assistant.
ChatGPT can also pull relevant details from multiple connected accounts when needed. By combining information across inboxes, contacts, and schedules, the assistant gains a broader view of a user’s communications, relationships, and calendar, which allows it to deliver more contextual and useful responses.
Permissions and availability
OpenAI’s plugin documentation notes that connected accounts remain subject to their respective app permissions and workspace controls. As a result, availability can differ depending on a user’s subscription plan, organization, and administrator settings. Workspace admins may restrict which accounts can be connected, so access is not guaranteed for every user.
The addition of multi-account support for Google services expands how ChatGPT and Codex fit into everyday productivity routines, particularly for people who maintain distinct personal and work identities across Google’s ecosystem. Users who have already linked a single account can add additional ones directly from the Plugins menu using the gear icon.
