Nvidia DLSS 5 has leaked ahead of any official announcement, and modders are already experimenting with the unreleased AI upscaling technology across a wide range of PC games. Code for the tech surfaced in an early-access build of NBA 2K27, giving the modding community an early look at what Nvidia has been developing.
According to reports, members of the RenoDX modding channel on Discord discovered a method to extract the DLSS “Neural Rendering” file from the NBA 2K27 build. They then applied it to other titles, starting with Control before spreading to additional games.
Which Games Are Running Unofficial DLSS 5
Once the file was extracted, modders began testing the unofficial version of DLSS 5 on popular titles including Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, and GTA V, among others. The effort demonstrates how quickly the community can adapt leaked technology and push it beyond its intended use.
The demonstrations focus heavily on Control, where the technology’s visual impact is easy to see. In one video, a user shows how the facial features of Control protagonist Jesse Faden become more or less defined depending on the DLSS 5 settings the RenoDX modders enabled.
What the New Neural Settings Do
The leaked build includes a setting described as Neural Uplift, part of the broader “Neural Rendering” approach that appears to define this generation of the technology. Adjusting these controls changes how sharply in-game details are rendered, with clear differences visible on character models as the settings are tweaked.
Because this is an unofficial version pulled from a pre-release game build, the behavior seen in these tests may not reflect the final product that Nvidia eventually ships. The technology has not been formally announced, and details remain limited to what modders have been able to extract and demonstrate so far.
The appearance of DLSS 5 code inside an early-access build of NBA 2K27 is the source of everything the modding community is now testing across multiple games.
