Twitch Adds Opt-Out for Amazon AI Model Training

Twitch Adds Opt-Out for Amazon AI Model Training - Twitch AI opt-out
Twitch streamers can now opt out of letting their content train Amazon's generative AI models. Here is what the setting covers and what it does not.

Twitch users can now opt out of allowing their content to be used to train Amazon’s generative AI models. Choosing to opt out means that a user’s streams, VODs, clips, stream chats, and the pictures and text on their channel will not be used in the future training of an Amazon AI model whose purpose is to generate or synthesise text, audio, images, or video.

The change gives streamers greater control over how their material feeds into artificial intelligence systems, an issue that has grown more prominent as platforms expand their use of automated tools.

What the opt-out covers

Opting out applies specifically to generative AI training. Other AI-supported features, such as captions and safety tools, will continue to function even after a user turns the setting off. There is an important caveat for chat participation: if a user takes part in a chat on another person’s stream, that streamer’s opt-out preferences determine whether the chat can be used for training.

The Training for Generative AI toggle appears in Twitch’s settings under the Security and Privacy tab. In testing, the toggle was found switched on by default.

What remains in use

Turning the setting off does not remove a user’s channel content from other uses described in Twitch’s privacy notice. According to Amazon’s description of the toggle, this includes AI-supported Twitch features intended to benefit the community by facilitating streamer growth and monetisation, such as real-time sponsorship campaign assistance; viewer discovery, such as recommendations; and community safety, such as AutoMod.

In other words, streamers who opt out will still see their material used for tools tied to discovery, monetisation, and moderation, but not for training generative models designed to produce new text, audio, images, or video. The generative AI training toggle is located under the Security and Privacy tab within Twitch’s account settings.
