Motorola 2027 Flagships to Officially Support GrapheneOS

Motorola 2027 Flagships to Officially Support GrapheneOS - Motorola GrapheneOS support
Motorola's 2027 flagships will officially support GrapheneOS, starting with a non-folding handset and later the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra.

GrapheneOS support is coming to Motorola’s 2027 flagship devices, following a collaboration between the two parties. The privacy-focused operating system, a modified version of Android that operates without Google while still running standard Android apps and adding stronger security, is now working towards backing upcoming Motorola handsets.

These devices will ship with Motorola’s usual Android skin out of the box, but owners will have the option to switch to GrapheneOS at a later stage if they wish. This flexibility is possible thanks to the cooperation between GrapheneOS and Motorola.

Which Motorola devices will be supported

The support applies to 2027 flagship Motorola devices, beginning with a regular, non-folding handset. GrapheneOS developers have hinted that this device will be the successor to the Signature. Following the initial release, the next-generation Razr Fold and Razr Ultra are expected to gain support as well.

All of these handsets will use flagship Snapdragon chipsets. According to the GrapheneOS team, these processors provide considerably better CPU and GPU performance, along with more of the isolated components on the SoC that the operating system requires to function securely.

Requirements and software commitments

The upcoming Motorola devices with GrapheneOS support will meet or exceed the project’s official requirements. This includes seven years of proper software updates, ensuring long-term security and functionality for owners who choose to adopt the alternative operating system.

A notable aspect of this partnership is that Motorola itself is undertaking a large portion of the work involved in porting GrapheneOS to its devices. This level of manufacturer involvement marks a shift from the typical arrangement, where such porting work is usually handled independently by the operating system’s development community. The first supported model is set to arrive as part of Motorola’s 2027 flagship line-up.
